Chipper Jones out 4-6 weeks

ATLANTA, June 9 (UPI) -- Hobbled Atlanta Braves third baseman Chipper Jones will not require surgery on his ailing left foot right away, doctors say.

Ligament damage was discovered during an MRI earlier this week. The Braves said on the team's Web site that Jones saw foot and ankle specialist Dr. Robert Anderson in Charlotte, N.C., on Thursday. Anderson recommended against surgery at this time, and said that Jones should wear an immobilization boot on his left foot for 4-6 weeks.

The former first-round draft pick was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday after aggravating the injury during an at-bat against Pittsburgh last Sunday.

In 156 at-bats this season, Jones, 33, was batting .282 with seven home runs and 26 RBI. The five-time all-star first suffered the injury on April 24.
