Argentina wraps up World Cup berth

BUENOS AIRES, June 8 (UPI) -- Argentina became the first South American team to qualify for the 2006 World Cup Wednesday night by defeating Brazil, 3-1.

Hernan Crespo scpred twice as the Argentines grabbed a 3-0 lead at halftime. The victory gave Argentina 31 points in the South American qualifying tournament while Brazil is in second place with 27.

The top four teams from South America will automatically claim World Cup berths while the fifth-place team will take part in a playoff with a team from the Oceania region.
