Field set for Belmont Stakes

ELMONT, N.Y., June 6 (UPI) -- There will be a field of 11 horses for Saturday's 137th running of the Belmont Stakes.

It will be headed by Preakness winner Afleet Alex and Giacomo, the surprise winner of the Kentucky Derby at 50-1 odds. Preakness runner-up Scrappy T has been scratched.

Afleet Alex and Giacomo will be the only horses to run each leg of horse racing's Triple Crown this year.

"I still think it is going to be a very interesting race, with the rematch between my horse and Giacomo as well as a couple of new horses," Afleet Alex trainer Tim Ritchey told the Louisville Courier-Journal. "I think it'll be a great race, and it'll certainly be a great race to watch."

Newcomers for the longest race in the Triple Crown will include Southern Africa, AP Arrow and Commendable.
