PARIS, June 2 (UPI) -- Roger Federer plays rising young Spanish star Rafael Nadal Friday in one of the men's semi-finals at the French Open tennis tournament.
Federer, from Switzerland, is the world's top-ranked player. He has won 46 matches this year, including 11 straight. The four-time Grand Slam champion needs to win the French Open to complete a career fifth Grand Slam. He was beaten by Marat Safin in this year's Australian Open title match and is 14-1 on clay in 2005. No. 4 seed Nadal, from the island of Mallorca, turns 19 on Friday. He has not dropped a set at Roland Garros in Paris this year and has a 22-match winning streak.
It will be the first Grand Slam semi-final for the hard-hitting left-hander. Friday's other semi-final will pit No. 12 Nikolay Davydenko against unseeded Mariano Puerta.
