Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

SEATTLE, June 2 (UPI) -- The Seattle Mariners blanked the Toronto Blue Jays 3-0 on pitcher Gil Meche's 6 2/3 shutout innings with help from four relievers at Safeco Field.
Meche (5-3) scattered five hits, walked a pair and struck out one. Eddie Guardado pitched a perfect ninth to record his 15th save of the season. He has saved the last four games for Seattle and has retired 21 straight batters.
For Toronto, Gustavo Chacin (5-4) took the loss. In 7 2/3 innings, the lefthander yielded three runs and 10 hits. Chacin also walked three and struck out five.
Seattle opened the scoring with a run in the fourth inning and added two more in the eighth.
Bret Boone and Randy Winn had two hits apiece for the Mariners, who have won four out of five.
