MLB: New York Mets 6, Arizona 1

NEW YORK, June 2 (UPI) -- Pedro Martinez allowed a run during an eight-inning stint Thursday night, carrying the New York Mets to a 6-1 decision over Arizona.

Martinez (6-1) struck out nine and gave the Mets their second straight outstanding effort on the mound. Victor Zambrano worked for New York Wednesday night in a 2-1 win.

Although he was struck in the foot by a line drive in the seventh inning, Martinez stayed in the game.

New York scored three times in the fourth against Shawn Estes (4-4) to take the lead. Carlos Beltran started the frame with a homer.
