Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

BOSTON, June 2 (UPI) -- David Ortiz slammed a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning Thursday to give the Boston Red Sox a 6-4 win over Baltimore.
Ortiz drove in four runs to help Boston pull within three games of the first place Orioles in the American League East.
Baltimore had forged ahead, 4-3, in the top of the ninth, scoring a run off winning pitcher Keith Foulke (3-3). B.J. Surhoff had three hits and one RBI for the Orioles. Jason Varitek had Boston's other two RBI.
Loser B.J. Ryan, who surrendered the game-winning blast by Ortiz, dropped to 0-1.
