Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

BOSTON, June 1 (UPI) -- Miguel Tejada had a four-for-five outing with a home run Wednesday night in carrying Baltimore to a 9-3 decision over Boston.
Baltimore also came up with homers from Geronimo Gil and Sammy Sosa as the Orioles claimed the first two games of the series and opened a four-game advantage over the Red Sox in the American League East.
The win went to Sidney Ponson (6-3), who gave up three runs on eight hits over 6 2/3. All of the runs were unearned.
Boston lost for the sixth time in nine games with Tim Wakefield (4-5) allowing seven runs in 5 2/3. Gil hit a three-run homer in the second to open the scoring and Tejada and Sosa hit back-to-back shots in the fifth.
