CHICAGO, May 31 (UPI) -- A home run by Jermaine Dye in the ninth inning Tuesday night gave the Chicago White Sox a 5-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels.

Los Angeles tied the game in the eighth, but Dye delivered Chicago's second straight ninth-inning triumph. He hit his homer off Brandon Donnelly (2-1).

The loss dropped the Angels a game behind Texas in the race for the American League West lead.

Cliff Politte (2-0) picked up the victory by throwing 1 2/3 innings of shutout ball. The White Sox have won 11 of their last 14 home games.
