Gonzalez makes a brief return

MINNEAPOLIS, May 31 (UPI) -- Cleveland outfielder Juan Gonzalez batted for the first time in almost a year Tuesday night and promptly suffered a hamstring pull.

Gonzalez, a two-time American League MVP while with Texas in the 1990s, was was signed by Cleveland during the winter. He suffered a hamstring injury during spring and was not activated until Tuesday.

While with Kansas City last season, he was sidelined by lower back problems and played in only 33 games. Prior to Tuesday night, his last at bat had been on May 21, 2004.
