CLEVELAND, May 26 (UPI) -- Cleveland tight end Kellen Winslow, who was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident on May 1, apologized to Browns fans Thursday.
Winslow will miss the entire 2005 season because of a torn ligament in his right knee.
"I want to first and foremost thank the Cleveland Browns organization, the coaching staff, medical staff, my teammates and fans of the Cleveland Browns who have continued to pray for my recovery," a statement by Winslow said. "I cannot express how moved I am by the support and words of encouragement I have received from all over the country.
"To those members of the Cleveland Browns family who I have disappointed by my decision to ride a motorcycle, I humbly apologize."
Winslow was hospitalized for 10 days and faces surgery on the injured knee. The injury came after he played less than two full games in his rookie year of 2004. He suffered a broken leg during a game against Dallas.
