MEMPHIS, May 26 (UPI) -- Justin Leonard, seeking his second victory of the year, fired an 8-under 62 Thursday that put him two shots in front at the FedEx St. Jude Classic.

Kirk Triplett was alone in second at 64 while Jason Bohn and Davis Love III were at 65.

Leonard is trying to join Vijay Singh, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Kenny Perry as a multiple winner on the tour this year.

Leonard won the Bob Hope Classic in January.

Perry, who captured the Bank of America Colonial last week and is the highest rated American in the field at No. 9 in the world, shot a 73 in the opening round.

Defending champion David Toms, the 11th rated player in the world, shot 68.
