TORONTO, May 26 (UPI) -- Toronto third baseman Corey Koskie underwent surgery on his broken right thumb and will miss at least a month.

He is expected to return home to Minnesota for rehabilitation, team officials said Thursday.

"I wouldn't expect him anytime soon," Manager John Gibbons said. "There's really nothing he can do. I'd stay home with my family too."

Koskie was injured sliding into second base in a contest against his former team, the Minnesota Twins, last week.

He was batting .248 with seven home runs and 16 RBI in 38 games.

In his absence, the Blue Jays are giving top prospect Aaron Hill a chance at third base. The shortstop has not committed an error in two starts at third base and has hit. 444 in 18 at-bats.
