Colangelo signed league MVP Steve Nash, guard Quentin Richardson and forward Steven Hunter to offseason contracts.

Phoenix won only 29 games a year ago, but had an NBA-best 62-20 record this season. That was the third best improvement in NBA history.

Colangelo, 39, is the third person from Phoenix to win an award this year as he joined Nash and Mike D'Antoni, who was named NBA Coach of the Year.

Colangelo and his father, Jerry, are the only father and son to win the Executive of the Year Award. Jerry, the Suns chairman and CEO, was a four-time winner (1976, 1981, 1989, 1993).
