IRVING, Texas, May 15 (UPI) -- Ted Purdy shot a 5-under 65 Sunday to win the EDS Byron Nelson Championship for his first PGA Tour title.

Purdy, 31, wound up at 15-under 265 and won by a single stroke over PGA Tour rookie Sean O'Hair.

Vijay Singh aced the 17th hole Sunday en route to a final-round 65. He shared third place with Bob Tway (67) and Doug Barron (69) at 11-under 269.

Singh needed to finish better than third to reclaim the No. 1 spot in the World Ranking even though current No. 1 Tiger Woods didn't even make the cut.

Purdy began the final round two shots behind third-round leader O'Hair.

Purdy became the fifth first-time winner on tour in 2005. He did not make a bogey in the final 27 holes of the tournament.

"It hasn't sunk in yet," said Purdy, who earned $1,116,000 for the win.
