MLB: Tampa Bay 3, Kansas City 2

KANSAS CITY, Mo., May 13 (UPI) -- A solo homer by Alex Gonzalez in the ninth inning Friday night gave Tampa Bay a 3-2 victory over Kansas City.

Alex Sanchez had three hits and Josh Phelps drove in two runs in helping the Devil Rays end a two-game skid. Kansas City has lost four of five.

Ambiorix Burgos (1-3) came on in the ninth inning of a tie game and, after striking out the first two men he faced, he allowed the homer by Gonzalez.

The blast by Gonzalez made a winner out of closer Danys Baez (4-0), who recorded the final out in the eighth and then worked a perfect ninth.
