MLB: Boston 6, Oakland 5

BOSTON, May 11 (UPI) -- A two-run ninth-inning home run by Jason Varitek gave Boston a 6-5 victory over the Oakland Athletics Wednesday.

David Ortiz led off the inning with a walk. After one out, Varitek homered to right. He knocked in thre runs and scored two in the game. Manny Ramirez added a two-run homer for the Red Sox.

Oakland had taken a 5-4 lead in the ninth with a four-run rally that included a two-run single by Keith Ginter.

Keith Foulke (2-3) was the winner. Octavio Dotel (1-2) took the loss.
