MINNEAPOLIS, May 10 (UPI) -- New Jersey developer Zygmunt Wilf emerged as the lead partner in a group planning a $625 million purchase of the Minnesota Vikings from Red McCombs.
Wilf was prepared to become the general partner in the transaction since Arizona businessman Reggie Fowler had been unable to raise the necessary money, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported.
Fowler looked to remain a limited partner in buying the National Football League team.
Wilf's son, Jon, and Minnesota car dealer Denny Hecker told the newspaper the NFL announcement of the ownership group change was imminent.
However, there was no immediate comment from the NFL.
Hecker and two New Jersey businessmen were expected to be minor partners in the purchase of the Vikings.
