Giants get Hasselbeck off waivers

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., May 9 (UPI) -- The New York Giants were awarded quarterback Tim Hasselbeck off waivers on Monday as a back-up to starter Eli Manning.

Hasselbeck, a four-year veteran, spent the past two seasons with the Washington Redskins. He was the club's third string quarterback in 2004.

Veteran Giants quarterback Jim Miller may not be available this coming season after undergoing recent hip surgery.

asselbeck has played in nine NFL games, with five starts. He has passed for 1,012 yards with five touchdowns and seven interceptions.
