Wood out with shoulder injury

CHICAGO, May 2 (UPI) -- Chicago Cubs righthander Kerry Wood learned Monday that he has a muscle strain in his right shoulder when he had an MRI.

Wood suffered the injury after just three innings of work in Saturday's 7-5 loss at Houston.

He will not throw for three weeks. Then, he will be reevaluated by team doctors and work to build back arm strength.

The Astros scored three times against Wood in the first inning, even though he reached 100 m.p.h on the radar gun.

In five starts this season, Wood is 1-1 with a 6.15 ERA and 33 strikeouts.
