Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

SHANGHAI, Togo, April 28 (UPI) -- Seven golfers including world No. 3 Ernie Els shared the first-round lead Thursday in the BMW Asian Open.
Els, Larry Austin, Peter Lawrie, Jean Van de Velde, Raphael Jacquelin, Simon Wakefield and Eddie Lee all shot 5-under-par 67 at the Tomson Shanghai Pudong Golf Club.
Richard Sterne, Jeev Milkha Singh, Carlos Rodiles and Soren Hansen were at 69.
Defending champion Miguel Angel Jimenez was in a group of 18 players at 70.
The tournament is on the European Tour's international schedule.
