MLB: Seattle 4, Texas 1

ARLINGTON, Texas, April 28 (UPI) -- Ichiro Suzuki broke a 1-1 tie in the eighth inning with a solo homer Thursday night and Seattle went on to defeat Texas, 4-1.

Seattle's Gil Meche (2-1) allowed a lone run on four hits in 7 2/3 innings. The only run he surrendered came on Hank Blalock's solo homer.

The Rangers' Chris Young (2-2) carried a shutout into the seventh, but gave up a run in that inning and then surrendered Suzuki's homer with one out in the eighth.

Young allowed five hits with one walk over eight innings.
