300-game winners to square off in Houston

HOUSTON, April 28 (UPI) -- When Roger Clemens pitches against Greg Maddux in Houston Friday it will be the first matchup of 300-game winners in nearly 18 years.

The Astros' Clemens has a 329-164 record, Maddux of the Cubs is 305-175.

Two 300-game winners haven't pitched against one another since August of 1987 when Don Sutton of California went against Minnesota's Steve Carlton.

"It should be a good matchup," Houston's Roy Oswalt told mlb.com. "Both of them won Cy Young Awards before (Clemens 7, Maddux 4) and it's always good when you see stuff like that in baseball. It makes the fans appreciate the game."
