Benitez placed on injured list by Giants

SAN FRANCISCO, April 27 (UPI) -- The San Francisco Giants put closer Armando Benitez on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday because of a strained right hamstring.

Benitez was injured as he ran to cover first base on the final play of Tuesday night's 6-5 victory over the San Diego Padres.

The 32-year-old right-hander, who signed as a free agent in the off-season and inherited the closer's role when Robb Nen retired, has recorded four saves in eight appearances.
