Singh tied with Coles after three rounds

HUMBLE, Texas, April 23 (UPI) -- Defending champion Vijay Singh shot a 2-under 70 Saturday to tie Gavin Coles for the lead after three rounds of the Shell Houston Open.

Coles, an Australian, had a 71 to tie Singh at 11-under 205.

Greg Owen had a 70 to take over third at 10-under 206. Brett Quigley, who shared the second round lead with Coles, shot 73 and is tied for fourth with Jose Maria Olazabal at 207.

Singh, a 42-year-old Fijian, tied the course record of 64 Thursday. He trailed Coles and Quigley after two rounds.

Singh, earned his 25th career win earlier this year and was voted into the World Golf Hall of Fame earlier this week.

"I'm quite happy with my position right now, but the golf course is getting tougher every day," said Singh.

Tom Byrum (70) moved into a tie for sixth at 208 with John Daly (73) and Joe Ogilvie (73).
