MLB: Atlanta 6, Philadelphia 2

ATLANTA, April 22 (UPI) -- Mike Hampton worked into the ninth inning Friday night and Atlanta got two-run homers from Marcus Giles and Adam LaRoche to down Philadelphia, 6-2.

Hampton (2-0) gave up two runs on seven hits in 8 2/3.

Danny Kolb entered the game with two on and two out in the ninth and walked Mike Lieberthal to load the bases. But Jim Thome was retired on a fly ball to end the game.

Giles homered in the third to give the Braves a 3-1 lead. LaRoche went deep in the seventh to make it 6-2.
