DELRAY BEACH, Fla., April 22 (UPI) -- The United States begins play in the Fed Cup Saturday with Lindsay Davenport taking on Eveline Vanhyfte of Belgium.
The Americans are heavily favored in the Fed Cup tie with a squad that includes Davenport and the Williams sisters -- Venus and Serena.
Serena Williams, however, is not likely to play because of an ankle injury.
After the Davenport match, Venus Williams will face Els Callens.
The reverse singles will be played Sunday along with a doubles match that will see Davenport team with Corina Morariu and play Callens and Leslie Butkiewicz.
The United States-Belgium winner will meet either Russia or Italy in the semifinals in July.
Other Fed Cup first round matchups find Spain hosting Argentina and France visiting Austria.
