BALTIMORE, April 20 (UPI) -- David Wells allowed three hits over eight innings Wednesday night in carrying Boston to an 8-0 win over Baltimore.

Jason Varitek went two for three with a homer and scored three times, helping the Red Sox win for the sixth time in seven games.

Wells improved to 2-2 with his second straight outstanding outing.

Baltimore starter Bruce Chen gave up five runs over five innings.
