Die-hard Chicago Cubs fan hit by car

CHICAGO, April 19 (UPI) -- Die-hard Chicago Cubs fan "Ronnie Woo Woo" Wickers, who cheers at home games in a uniform with his name on the back, was hit by a car outside Wrigley Field.

Wickers, 64, was struck by a car backing out of a parking space near the ballpark Monday and was treated for minor injuries at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, the Chicago Tribune said.

A 58-year-old suburban man was charged with striking a pedestrian in a roadway while backing up.

Wickers, who describes himself as "the biggest Cubs fan in the whole universe," has seen thousands of Cubs games while leading cheers with a distinctive high-pitched "Woo Woo" call followed by the names of his favorite players.

The former homeless man spent years living on the street and was adopted as an unofficial mascot by several Cubs teams. He washes windows in the neighborhood around Wrigley Field.

Wickers appeared in a television commercial after a dentist repaired his teeth for free, restoring a beaming smile.
