DETROIT, April 15 (UPI) -- Detroit outfielder Magglio Ordonez will likely undergo hernia surgery that will keep him out of action for at least a month.

The Tigers announced a date for the surgery will be set next week after consultation with doctors.

Ordonez played in the first two games of the season but has played just once since then. He had complained of dizziness and was diagnosed as having a viral infection.

When he played last Tuesday, he went hitless in four at bats. Ordonez went on the disabled list on Friday.

He was signed to a five-year deal last February after spending eight years with the Chicago White Sox.
