Brazil: Soccer player jailed for slurs

SAO PAULO, April 14 (UPI) -- An Argentine soccer player spent the night in jail after lobbying racial slurs at a Brazilian player during a game, O Globo reported Thursday.

Leandro Desabato, a defender for Argentina's Quilmes club, was taken into Brazilian police custody following Wednesday night's game against Sao Paulo in which he tussled with Brazilian player Grafite, who had already been trading shoves with another player from Quilmes. Desabato then reportedly insulted Grafite before the altercation was broken up.

The Argentine player was released from jail early Thursday morning with the aid of the Argentine consulate in Sao Paulo.
