Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
MINNEAPOLIS, April 6 (UPI) -- Wally Szczerbiak led Minnesota on an early run Wednesday night and the Timberwolves went on to crush Utah, 111-86.
Szczerbiak scored 20 points and keyed a 19-0 surge in the first period that gave Minnesota a 25-4 lead.
The Timberwolves remained 2 1/2 games behind Memphis for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
Kevin Garnett added 18 points for Minnesota and Trenton Hassell had 14. The Timberwolves have won seven of eight.
Utah was paced by 14 points each from Gordon Giricek and Matt Harpring.
