BALTIMORE, April 6 (UPI) -- Kirk Saarloos made an unexpected start Wednesday night and teamed with three relievers to give Oakland a 9-0 victory over Baltimore.
Saarloos (1-0) was called on to pitch for the injured Rich Harden. The emergency starter allowed one hit over six innings. Ricardo Rincon, Huston Street and Octavio Dotel all worked one frame to finish the shutout.

Nick Swisher keyed the offense by going three for five with two homers and three RBI.
Eric Chavez and Keith Ginter also had home runs.
