Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., April 4 (UPI) -- Catcher Charles Johnson, a four-time Gold Glove winner, was signed Monday by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
Johnson had recently been traded by Colorado to Boston and then released. He said last week he was interested in talking with Devil Rays officials.
The 33-year-old Johnson has played in the major leagues 11 seasons with Florida, the Los Angeles Dodgers, Baltimore, the Chicago White Sox and Colorado.
He is expected to be the Devil Rays' backup catcher behind Toby Hall.
Johnson's career averages include a .246 batting average with 167 home runs and 565 RBI.
