Clijsters wins NASDAQ-100 tennis

MIAMI, April 2 (UPI) -- Belgian Kim Clijsters won the $3.06 million NASDAQ-100 Open SDaturday by beating second-seeded Russian Maria Sharapova in straight sets.

Clijsters, 21, has won 14 straight matches and 16 of 17 since coming back from left wrist surgery that forced her to miss most of last year. She beat Sharapova 6-3, 7-5.

Sharapova is the reigning Wimbledon champion.

Clijsters has won two straight tournaments. She won at Indian Wells the week before this tournament kicked off, She became just the second player to win at Indian Wells and here the same year. Steffi Graf did thato in 1994 and 1996.

This was Clijsters 23rd career title. She earned $400,000 for Saturday's victory.
