
ST. LOUIS, April 2 (UPI) -- Luther Head made six three-pointers Saturday as top-ranked Illinois moved to NCAA championship game for the first-time with a 72-57 win over Louisville.
Head, who totaled 20 points, was 6-of-11 in three-pointers while Roger Powell Jr. also scored 20 points, including 18 in the second half.
The Fighting Illini (37-1) appeared in the national semifinals for the fifth time in school history, but the first since 1989.
Illinois will take on the winner of third-ranked North Carolina and Michigan State in Monday's national championship.
Ellis Myles had 17 points and seven rebounds for the fourth-ranked Cardinals (33-5), who appeared in the national semifinals for the first time since winning the national championship in 1986.
Louisville was in the Final Four for the eighth time but is only 2-6 in the national semifinalss.
The Cardinals had their 13-game winning streak ended while losing for just the second time in their past 24 games.
