A's owner extends front office contracts

OAKLAND, Calif., April 1 (UPI) -- During his first day at the helm, the new owner of the Oakland Athletics extended the contracts of his key front office personnel.

Major League owners gave final approval earlier this week for the sale of the franchise to real estate developer Lewis Wolff.

Wolff met the media Friday for the first time since his ownership became official and he announced he had extended the contracts of team president Michael Crowley and General Manager Billy Beane.

Crowley's contract was extended through 2008 and Beane's through 2012.

"Extending the contracts of Mike and Billy and including them in the ownership group provides great stability at the top of our organization," Wolff said.

"They are recognized as two of the top executives in all of sports and have played integral roles in shaping the A's into a model organization. Their skills and leadership will continue to be a vital asset to this organization in the years to come."
