Catcher Charles Johnson seeking new team

DENVER, March 31 (UPI) -- Catcher Charles Johnson, who was traded by Colorado to Boston and then released, says he's looking forward to talking with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

Johnson and left-hander Chris Narveson were traded by the Rockies to the Red Sox for right-handed closer Byung-Hyun Kim. The Red Sox, who also received cash, then designated Johnson for assignment and released him..

"I feel pretty good. It was definitely a different situation this year, knowing that I wasn't gong to be with the team. I was hoping the situation would work out," Johnson told MLB.com Wednesday.

"I'll be a free agent, so I'll go home for a few days, but I definitely want to talk with the Devil Rays and find out where I fit in."

Reports in Florida have indicated the Rays were interested in Johnson.

Johnson has a career batting average of .246 with 167 home runs and 565 RBI.

Kim's career totals include a record of 31-28 with 86 saves and a 3.37 ERA in 299 games.

Narveson was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket.
