Houston Fancher gets contract extension

BOONE, N.C., March 30 (UPI) -- Appalachian State Coach Houston Fancher has received a three-year contract extension through the 2008-09 season.

Fancher, 39, has a record of 67-81 in five seasons as Mountaineers coach. The team was 18-12 (9-7 in the Southern Conference) this season.

"Houston Fancher has done the right things, in the right way, to build a program here at Appalachian," Linda K. Robinson, interim athletic director, said Wednesday.

"This extension, to me, is a direct statement that our administration is both pleased and excited with the current and future direction of our program," Fancher said.
