COL BKB: St. Joseph's 53, Hofstra 44

PHILADELPHIA, March 16 (UPI) -- Pat Carroll scored 16 points Wednesday night and St. Joseph's defense carried the Hawks to a 53-44 win over Hofstra in the NIT's opening round.

St. Joseph's advanced to meet Buffalo, an overtime winner over Drexel Wednesday night.


Dwayne Lee added 14 points for the Hawks (20-11) and Dwayne Jones had 12.

Hofstra, which concluded its season at 21-9, had won 46 straight games when holding the opposition to less than 60 points. Antoine Agudio led Hofstra with 16.

It was the first game back for John Bryant of St. Joseph's since he broke his arm in an incident that resulted in a suspension of Temple Coach John Chaney.
