Ryan Newman wins NASCAR pole

LAS VEGAS, March 11 (UPI) -- Ryan Newman won the 28th pole of his NASCAR career Friday and will start in front for Sunday's UAW DaimlerChrysler 400.

He toured the 1.5-mile Las Vegas Motor Speedway circuit in 31.080 seconds. Elliott Sadler turned in the second-best time of 31.086.

Greg Biffle, Kevin Harvick and Scott Riggs rounded out the top five.

Kurt Busch, who has the early lead in the season-long points race, will start sixth. This will be the third event of the NASCAR season.
