COL BKB: Atlantic 10 Tournament

CINCINNATI, March 9 (UPI) -- A 22-point effort by Kevin Steenberge Wednesday led Richmond to a 68-60 win over Rhode Island to open the Atlantic 10 Tournament.

LaSalle then surprised Massachusetts in overtime, 70-64; Fordham eliminated Duquesne, 65-53; and Dayton ran over St. Bonaventure, 78-48.

Steenberge helped Richmond even its record at 14-14 and set up a quarterfinal confrontation with St. Joseph's. Rhode Island owned a nine-point halftime lead.

Jermaine Thomas and Mike St. John combined to score all of LaSalle's 11 points in overtime as the Explorers won for just the 10th time this season.

Massachusetts (16-12) was led by Rashaun Freeman with 19. LaSalle will play Xavier in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

Fordham got past Duquesne thanks to a 31-point shot from Marcus Stout, who made 10 of 17 shots from the field. The Rams (13-15) will play George Washington on Thursday.

Duquesne tried 21 shots from three-point range and missed them all.

Dayton built a 22-point halftime lead and coasted from there to create a quarterfinal matchup against Temple.
