Serena Williams rolls into Italian Open semifinals

MINNEAPOLIS, March 8 (UPI) -- The Minnesota Vikings agreed to terms Tuesday with free-agent cornerback Fred Smoot.
Smoot, considered one of the top corners in this year's free-agent pool, was an alternate for the Pro Bowl this past season after recording 57 tackles, three interceptions and 12 passes defensed for the Washington Redskins.
Smoot, 25, started 58 games over his four years with the Redskins and amassed 16 interceptions and 59 pass breakups.
He will team with Antoine Winfield to give Minnesota a highly regarded pair of cornerbacks for a Viking defense which ranked 28th among the 32 NFL teams in yards allowed.
