HOMESTEAD, Fla., March 6 (UPI) -- Dan Wheldon won Sunday's Toyota Indy 300 at the Homestead-Miami Speedway, finishing 3.6936 seconds ahead of runner-up Sam Hornish Jr.
The victory was the fourth of Wheldon's IndyCar career.
Wheldon started in 11th place after a poor qualifying lap, but by lap 20 had taken his first lead.
Wheldon held a 0.2159-second lead on Helio Castroneves at the halfway mark of the 200-lap race. With 50 laps remaining, he was still in the top-five, but was trailing Castroneves, teammate Tony Kanaan and Scott Sharp.
Wheldon was in front with 24 laps to go but four cars stayed within one second of the leader.
Wheldon led a total of 158 of 200 laps.
Kanaan finished third, Vitor Meira fourth, and Castroneves fifth.
