Mickelson builds two-shot lead

MIAMI, March 4 (UPI) -- Phil Mickelson, seeking his third victory in four tournaments, opened a two-shot lead Friday at the midway point of the Ford Championship.

Mickelson shot a 6-under 66 at the Doral Blue Monster course for a two-round total of 14-under 130.

That was only one shot off the tournament record for 36 holes and it put him two strokes in front of Billy Andrade.

Mickelson has either led or shared the lead after the last nine rounds in PGA Tour stroke play events. He won the FBR Open in Phoenix and the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am before being eliminated in the third round of the Match Play Championship last week.

"The only thing that matters is leading on Sunday and that's the goal right now," Mickelson said.

Jose Maria Olazabal was alone in third at 133 while Billy Mayfair was at 134.

Among those tied for fifth at 135 were the world's top two ranked players -- Vijay Singh and Tiger Woods. Singh shot a 67 while Woods had to settle for a 70 that included three straight bogeys.
