Brian Griese accepts restructured contract

TAMPA, Fla., Feb. 27 (UPI) -- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have reportedly restructured the contract of quarterback Brian Griese.

According to the Tampa Tribune, Griese will receive $32 million over five years and the deal can be altered after the first or second year.

The move gives the Buccaneers some salary cap relief since, before the move, they were $17 million over the cap. Negotiations were completed early Sunday morning.

The seven-year veteran was set to receive a $6 million roster bonus Wednesday.

He had a surprising comeback season in 2004, when he was 233-of-336 for 2,632 yards and 20 touchdown passes with 12 interceptions. With the likely release of Brad Johnson, Griese is expected to be the club's starting signal-caller heading into the 2005 season.

He also has played for Denver and Miami and during his career he has completed 1,351-of-2,144 attempts (63 percent) for 15,208 yards with 96 touchdowns and 71 interceptions.
