SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Feb. 22 (UPI) -- San Francisco slugger Barry Bonds met with the media Tuesday but declined to discuss steroid allegations that have dominated baseball's off-season.
Bonds talked about his off-season knee surgeries, called the assembled reporters liars and said he did not consider using steroids cheating.
The news conference, which lasted about one hour, began with a Giants' official stating that Bonds, "Can't answer questions on BALCO because it's a legal matter."
According to published reports, the seven-time National League MVP testified before a federal grand jury in December 2003 that he unknowingly used steroids provided by his personal strength trainer, Greg Anderson.
Bonds admitted to using a clear substance and cream, but said he didn't know they were steroids.
