COLUMBUS, Ohio, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- Ohio State forward Matt Sylvester was suspended for one game Friday for fighting.

Sylvester was involved in an altercation with a fan after a game at Michigan State Feb. 9.

The school levied the penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct.

The 6-7 junior, who has written a letter of apology, will miss Saturday's contest at Minnesota.

"Matt Sylvester's actions towards a fan at Michigan State are unacceptable and have no place in the sport of basketball or the Big Ten Conference," Big Ten Commissioner James E. Delany said. "We support the written letter of apology and Ohio State's implementation of a one-game suspension."

School officials said they now consider the matter closed.

Sylvester is averaging 7.3 points in 26 games this season.
