NASHVILLE, Feb. 15 (UPI) -- Cornerback Samari Rolle of the Tennessee Titans was arrested Tuesday on a domestic violence charge.

"Unfortunately with this being a legal matter, I am unable to comment on the particulars of the situation," Rolle said in a statement posted on the Titans' Website. "We are cooperating in this process and it is our wish that our privacy would be respected."

Rolle was charged with simple assault after his wife, Danisha, was treated Monday night for a cut on her face.

Rolle, who played in only to 12 games this past season, had one interception and 28 tackles. He is considered one of the best cover cornerbacks in the NFL.

Rolle was drafted by the Titans out of Florida State in 1998.

Rolle was fined by the NFL for making a throat-slash gesture in a game against the New York Jets in 2003. Earlier the same season, he was fined for excessive celebration during Tennessee's win over Miami.
