PARIS, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Russian teenager Dinara Safina Frenchwoman Amelie Mauresmo in Sunday's final of the Open Gaz de France.

Safina, 18, beat former world No. 1 Mauresmo, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3, for her first title of the year and the third of her career.

Safina made it into the semifinals when tournament favorite Serena Williams withdrew because of a gastrointestinal illness.

Williams won this event in 1999 and 2003, beating Mauresmo in both finals. Mauresmo, who beat Safina in this year's Australian Open, won here in 2001.
